News From The Ship
The Ship: Autumn & Winter Newsletter
As the nights drew in and the temperatures dipped for the onset of autumn, we prepared for even more family fun and festive frivolities starting with our phenomenal bonfire celebration evening!
Our Guy was a feat in itself, and a masterclass in up-cycling! Set on a gazebo, made from wooden boxes, and carefully completed with the all-important pumpkin head, our pumpkin- person set the tone for a fabulous night. Toasted marshmallows, pumpkin carving, apple- dunking relays, sand-art and a rocket-art based workshop were all on offer and made for a truly memorable evening of family fun. To add to this our delicious mulled wine (a carefully guarded family secret!) was enjoyed by many – watch this space for a special festive return of this treat!
The Alpacas come to town..!
As November arrived, so too did the alpacas! This really was a day to remember! Among the alpaca tribe were Mary, Polly and Frank (to name a few!) who were ready and waiting to make friends with our visitors to The Ship.
This was a family day celebrating the heritage of the pub and the area itself. A showcase of all that is close to the heart of our business was on offer, including displays of vintage farming equipment (including a tractor!), arts and crafts activities, and information on where our food comes from with a spotlight on the importance of animals. The Woodland Trust were on hand and working with children to make some fantastic sculptures - as well as develop some handy forestry skills! Also on offer was dragon-fly drawing and hedgehog-house-making!
Of course, our events would not be complete without some truly mouth-watering food to savour... To accompany our family fun we put the spotlight on international street food, serving up a taste of the orient with our delicious dragon noodles and superb Phad Thai. Yum yum!
A busy, brilliant and tasty day indeed!
Lighting up Christmas at The Ship
The start of December meant another fabulous opportunity to get together with our customers and start the festive fun in style. As the snow fell, the carollers sang and our countdown to the switch-on of our Christmas lights began. The night was truly magical. Accompanied by our special mulled wine and fruity mince pies, we can’t think of a better way to begin the season. Ho, ho, ho!
As December merriment fully sets in, we are hugely excited about showcasing our sumptuous Christmas fayre as well as dressing the pub and sharing that festive feeling with you. Why not book your Christmas meal now and enjoy a festive table complete with crackers and fun, as well as the knowledge that your enjoyment and comfort is our priority?
Mulled wine Wednesday 5 onwards...
There’s nothing like that cinnamon scent to tell you Christmas has arrived in style! A warm mulled-wine welcome awaits you each Mulled Wine Wednesday in December.
Whilst we can’t share our carefully guarded family mulled wine recipe with you, we can give you the opportunity to indulge in it once again after it proved such a hit at our Bonfire Night Special. Suffice to say, fresh cinnamon sticks direct from the Spanish region of Andalusia (provenance is all-important to us at The Ship), together with a hint of star anise make star appearances! We look forward to seeing you!
